Joey
Posteromedial Tibial Bowing Rhode Island Dr. McClure
Joey was born with posteromedial tibial bowing (PMTB)–a condition that caused a 45-degree bow in his right leg. His mom, Kristina, shares that they had difficulty finding shoes Joey could walk in without him ending up walking on the inside of his foot, and he had a significant limb length discrepancy. She was thrilled to share to their @JoeysJourney_PMTB Instagram page that Joey finished his lengthening with Dr. McClure, and his right leg is now straight and very close to equal in length to the other leg! His foot is now nearly flat on the ground, and his external fixator is scheduled to be removed soon.
Kristina shares, “From the first free virtual chat with the doctors at the Rubin Institute, it was apparent they see limb deformities often. When your child is born with something rare where there a lot of different options for treatment, it’s important to be with a doctor who specializes in it. Dr. McClure was extremely professional, honest, and passionate about the limb lengthening procedure. Between him, the PA and residents, they were able to explain in simpler terms the process and what it entailed, [and] that continued throughout Joey’s lengthening… To any of my fellow PMTB parents, I recommend them in a heartbeat.”
