Perthes Disease North Carolina Dr. Standard

We saw two other orthopedic doctors before finding Dr. Standard. We were told [by the other two doctors that] he would be wheelchair bound for two years and be in cast and braces, and we weren’t sure if he would have range of motion at the end of treatment. We found Dr. Standard, and although we have a long journey ahead of us, he gave our son a chance at childhood. I would tell all parents to get a second, third, and fourth opinion if needed! Don’t move forward anywhere else until you meet Dr. Standard. It will be the best decision you’ve made in treatment.”

She adds, “Dr. Standard is by far the most compassionate doctor I’ve ever encountered. He treats you like you are the only patient he has. He remembers details about your child even months later. Marilyn [Richardson, Pediatric Liaison] was so amazing at helping us with our arrangements to stay, and Barbara [Scher, International Finance and Development Coordinator] really made this surgery happen for us. She worked with our healthcare plan until we had a resolution.”

“We believe Dr. Standard gave our son back his childhood. We don’t know what the future looks like yet, but we know the prognosis is better than what it would have been without him. It feels like home here [the International Center for Limb Lengthening], even almost 400 miles away from home.”
