Damaris
Blount Disease New Jersey Dr. Herzenberg
Damaris had adolescent Blount disease that had not been treated while she was a teenager. She had an arthroscopic knee procedure, but shares “I was worried that I would never be able to have a straight leg, and that the bow in my leg would eventually debilitate me.”
Dr. Herzenberg performed an osteotomy of her left tibia and gradual bow correction using a Taylor Spatial Frame (external fixator). When asked how her life has been changed as a result of treatment at the International Center for Limb Lengthening, she replies, “My life has changed immensely. Having a bow in my leg for all of my adult life had made me lack confidence. It had also put additional pressure on my knee and had put me in pain while doing any kind of activity. After the surgery, I am able to do everything I could do before and more. I am able to be without any pain and have gained so much confidence that I had never had before.”
“Dr. Herzenberg was amazing! He is top notch. He explained everything to me on multiple occasions with such patience and understanding. His assistant, Renee Hunter, PA-C, was awesome. She was encouraging and compassionate. The hospital staff were also great. They were caring and really did their best to help me…. I would just like to say thank you from the bottom of heart. He [Dr. Herzenberg] really changed my life. I appreciate everything they did for me.”
When asked what she would tell someone else with Blount disease considering treatment at the International Center for Limb Lengthening, Damaris responded, “I would tell them to not be worried, because Dr. Herzenberg is a master of his profession. I would tell them that they took great care of me, and that the small amount of pain I went through to fix my condition was whole-heartedly worth it. I would tell them if I had to do it again, I would without question.”
While Dr. Herzenberg has retired from providing patient care, Dr. Michael Assayag and Dr. Philip McClure are available to treat this condition.
